Ethanol
Acting as a consistent pipeline to the end-blender or refinery, each of Alternative Energy Sources’ plants is expected to produce almost 100 cars of ethanol per week. Ethanol is a renewable, octane-boosting fuel additive derived from corn. It reduces toxic emissions from gasoline engines and has been widely accepted as a cleaner, “greener” alternative to other fuel additives, notably MTBE, which environmentalists fear may pollute the nation’s groundwater supply.
Corn is a readily-available and affordable domestic commodity; therefore, the use of ethanol offers Americans significant economic and national security benefits as well. The economic advantages, however, extend beyond savings in fuel costs. An increased demand for corn would enhance incomes for American farmers and create a wide range of jobs for American workers as well.
Ethanol is also a key ingredient in E85, a gasoline/ethanol blend that could help automobile drivers lower their annual transportation costs. Recently, National Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman announced that General Motors, Ford, Daimler-Chrysler and Nissan have pledged to build some 700,000 flex fuel cars in the current model year that can run on E85 fuel. Secretary Bodman also declared that awareness of flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) and E85 must be increased, and that E85 become a nationwide fueling option.
Interest in ethanol continues to grow exponentially as the United States government looks for innovative ways to decrease American dependence on foreign oil. An energy bill signed by President Bush last summer included a renewable fuels standard requiring the use of 7.5 billion gallons of ethanol and biodiesel by 2012. The President has also established a national goal of replacing more than 75% of imported oil by 2025.

Dried Distillers Grains (DDGs)
Dried Distillers Grains is the product remaining once the ethanol has been removed from the fermented corn mash. These grains are rich in cereal proteins, fat (energy), vitamins and minerals, and are an excellent source of digestible protein and energy for livestock.
Alternative Energy Sources anticipates producing 70 cars of Dried Distillers Grains per week at each of its facilities. To ensure a readily-available market for its product, senior management has devoted nearly five months’ time to Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas feedlots where DDGs are used. Alternative Energy Sources has developed extensive relationships with feedlot managers in Herford, Texas, as well.
